Midland College’s Energy Technology program grew out of a statewide effort to create curriculum that would emphasize the skills necessary to prepare students for immediate success in the energy industry. The curriculum was designed to provide training in the electrical and mechanical aspects of the installation, operation, and maintenance of systems used in petroleum exploration and production. Today, a few of this program’s core classes include: Introduction to Petroleum Industry; Basic Fluid Power; Basic Mechanical Skills for Energy; Industrial Automation; Distributed Control and Programmable Logic; and Pumps, Compressors, and Mechanical Drives.. The Midland College Petroleum Related Programs Scholarship Fund helps area students overcome the financial barriers they face during such difficult times. Specifically, scholarship monies are used for their tuition, fees, books, and supplies. As part of our Energy Technology program students will obtain certificates as Energy Technicians and Petroleum Energy Technicians, and will also have the opportunity to complete Associate of Applied Science degrees in Energy Technology. Scholarships may also be awarded to high school participants in our Dual Credit program.
